POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title:  Tribal Gaming Board of Directors – Vacancy – Term ending April 2022
Location:  Longview, WA
Classification:  Part-time 4 to 6 meetings per month
Opening Date:  August 5, 2019
Salary Range:  DOQ

Position Summary: The Cowlitz Tribal Gaming Authority (“Authority”) is an agency of the Cowlitz Tribal government, separate from other branches of the Tribal government but accountable to the Tribal Council. The primary function is to oversee the development, operation, management, and financing of Tribes gaming operation, entertainment facilities, gas station, convenience store, and associated future development including a hotel, and resort facilities (the “Enterprise”).

During the term of the Tribe’s Management Agreement with the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut (“Sal-Mo”), which runs until April 2024, the Authority Board of Directors shares these oversite functions with Sal-Mo.

The Gaming Authority Board oversees all non-regulatory aspects of the gaming operation.  Regulation of the gaming operation is sole responsibility of the Tribal Gaming Commission.

Purpose:

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

The duties and powers of the Authority are carried out by a four-member Management Board. In conjunction with our Sal-Mo management partners, they act as the Board of Directors for the casino operation.
Management Board members are subject to the same background and licensing requirements as key employees and primary management officials of the gaming enterprise.
The Board adopts its annual budget subject to the approval of the Cowlitz Tribal Council.

Duties of the Authority Board include:

The Authority shall exercise its powers in the best interests of the Tribe within the limits of responsible business judgment.

Meetings: The Authority Board meets every two weeks with the ilani management team. Board members hold additional meeting as needed to oversee development projects, financing needs, and other special projects that arise. Board members also usually attend monthly Tribal Council meetings.
