Tribal Statement Addressing Hate Against Asian Americans
Provided by Cowlitz Indian Tribe and Pathways to Healing
Recently, there has been an overwhelming and unacceptable increase in hate crimes against the Asian American community. This epidemic continues to grow, as evidenced by the March 16 shooting in Atlanta, GA, where eight people, including six Asian women, were murdered. This incident is a reflection of escalating violence targeting Asian American women.
The Cowlitz Indian Tribe, in collaboration with our Pathways to Healing program, firmly stand in solidarity to denounce misogyny, systemic violence and white supremacy. We collectively grieve the continued anti-Asian hate crimes and pray for those impacted. We voice our compassion for those suffering from race-based hatred and gender-based violence. It is of utmost importance that we work together with our allies to build safe communities for everyone that are centered on equity, dignity and respect.
