Cowlitz Tribal Education

The Tribal Tuition Assistance Award program is managed by a volunteer committee. On May 19, 2018, the Education Committee met and elected officers for the 2018-19 academic year

Mike Iyall, Chair
Gregg Ford, Vice-Chair
Becky Lowe, Secretary.
We are proud to be serving with Education Committee members: Karissa Lowe, Suzanne Donaldson Stephens, Celine Cloquet, David Iyall, Dave Reichel, Dave Littleton, and Joan Iyall.

The response to the 2018-19 Tuition Assistance Award program made it clear, we had outgrown what a group of volunteers could manage.  We are fortunate to have our first employee, Carol Burnison, Tuition Assistance Coordinator, to provide support for this program.

2018-19 Cowlitz Indian Tribe Tuition Assistance Program

2018-19 Cowlitz Tuition Assistance Program

160 Cowlitz students have received awards for the 2018-19 academic year. Funding for the 2018-19 academic year was exhausted on July 21, 2018.

We are now accepting applications for a 2018-19 Waiting List. Experience tells us education plans and financial aid needs change.   When an award recipient notifies us they will not need all or part of their 2018-19 academic year award, funds from their award will be reassigned to the next Cowlitz member on the waiting list.

The Cowlitz Indian Tribe awards assistance for tuition and fees to enrolled Cowlitz members attending accredited trade/vocational schools or post-secondary institutions. Tribal funding will support one of each of the following certificates/degrees:

 Trade/Vocational/Professional Certificate
 Associates
 Bachelor
 Master
 Doctorate

2019-20 Cowlitz Tuition Assistance Program

As you read this, the Education Committee has submitted our 2019-20 academic year funding request to Tribal Council.  We have requested enough funds to provide support for tuition and tuition related fees to 200 Cowlitz students in full-time or part-time vocational, undergraduate, and graduate programs.

The 2019-20 Tuition Assistance Award application will be posted on this website in early January 2019.  We encourage you to apply early as funding will be limited.

We have taken pride in delivering the scholarships and Cowlitz Tuition Assistance Awards to hundreds of our Cowlitz families for well over ten years.  The Education Committee and those who have received this award appreciate the support of the Cowlitz Tribal Council and the members of the Cowlitz Tribe.

The Education Committee encourages you to apply early. Students applying for a Cowlitz Tuition Assistance Award are urged to seek outside sources of funding for their education costs. To assist you, links to scholarship programs and other educational opportunities are provided on the Tribe’s website under Looking for Scholarships
